TVEE Organizes Vaccine Economics Workshops in India and Uganda

The Teaching Vaccine Economics Everywhere (TVEE) project organized workshops in Bangalore, India and Kampala Uganda

The workshop series focuses on capacity building in applied vaccine economics, cost-effectiveness and finance and is developed by professional team of seasoned health economists from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, WITS School of Public Health, IIHMR University, Aga Khan University, and Makerere University. The workshop series aims to strengthen skills related to economics and financing of national immunization programs to improve the sustainability of vaccine delivery in low and middle-income countries.

This program is designed for professionals and academics who are involved in planning and implementation of immunization programs and projects. The target participants for this program would, therefore, include government representatives (national, state-level, district-level) engaged with immunization, NiTAG members, GAVI program managers, other policy makers, and academics.

India

The IIHMR University held the third TVEE workshop from 24 - 25 October 2018. The workshop primarily focused on the Financing, Resource-Tracking and Affordability of Immunization Programs, and was led by Dr. P.R. Sodani, Dr. Susmita Chatterjee, Dr. Anthony Kinghorn, and Shreena Malaviya. The method of instruction was in-class lectures supported by case-studies and exercises. A total of 17 participants from India and Bangladesh attended this workshop.

Uganda

The Makerere University held the fourth TVEE workshop from 5 – 7 November 2018 in Kampala, Uganda. The workshop covered Economic Evaluation for Decision-Making in Immunization Programs, led by Dr. Chrispus Mayora, Dr. Lumbwe Chola, Dr. Fred Matovu and Natalie Alfonso. The method of instruction was in-class lectures supported by case-studies and exercises. There were 23 participants from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda that attended the workshop.

Upcoming workshop in Jaipur, India

IIHMR University will be organizing a workshop from 29 – 30 November 2018 in Jaipur, India, focusing on the Costing of Immunization Programs led by Dr. P.R. Sodani, Dr. Susmita Chatterjee, Dr. David Bishai and Shreena Malaviya.
