Two workshops will be offered in February at the Wits School of Public Health, each covering the following topics:
- Introduction to Vaccine Supply Chains
- Vaccine Economics
- Immunization Resource Tracking
The workshops will cover the concepts of vaccine economics and vaccine supply chain model through a hands-on approach. Participants will use the HERMES software to build a model of a real-world supply chain from its various components, identify and assess critical measures of the system’s operational and economic “health” and test the effects of new technology and policy changes on the system. It will be led by a multi-disciplinary team of experienced Economists, Health Systems Specialists and Vaccine Program Experts from Wits University and Johns Hopkins BSPH University.
The program fee will be ZAR 3,500 per participant. There are a limited number of scholarships available to participants to cover the cost of participation, travel, accommodation, and per diem. Priority will be given to applicants who work in EPI programs, National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAG) and partners from GAVI-eligible countries in Southern Africa. Funded participants would ideally be familiar with the basic use of Microsoft Excel and have some experience working on planning, managing or budgeting for vaccine and immunization programs.
