Landscape analysis of immunization services in Gavi eligible countries

Home > Landscape analysis of immunization services in Gavi eligible countries

During 2016-2017 a rapid assessment of the comprehensive multi-year planning (cMYP) process for immunization was completed to understand needs for immunization planning, learn lessons from the last ten years of cMYP experiences, and identify best practices of developing and using cMYPs. The analysis included country case studies and country desk reviews.

Significant findings included that while there is great diversity between country experiences, the large majority of countries believe that the cMYP process has added value. Most countries had, over time, come to understand the importance of multi-year planning better. However, one of the identified deficiencies was that cMYPs are not consistently linked to annual operational plans (AOPs).

UNICEF and partners developed this landscape analysis to address needed changes that will improve the cMYP process by identifying:

  • Which countries make use of AOPs

  • How AOPs are developed

  • To what extent budgets are attached to AOPs

  • Links between AOPs and the cMYP

  • Assessment of whether and how activities in AOPs are being monitored
