Home > Gavi’s support to maintain, restore and strengthen immunisation for COVID-19

COVID-19 has adversely impacted immunization programs nearly everywhere. This document guides on how Gavi support can be used to maintain and restore immunization over the next 12-18 months.

Section three of The COVID-19 response guidance document by Gavi document explains WHO issued guidance on how immunization services should be safeguarded and adapted to ensure safe and effective delivery, including the use of IPC measures to prevent COVID-19 transmission during immunization sessions and protect frontline workers, communication to communities, vaccine management and restoration of information systems.

Section four focusses on how the disruptions in immunization services will result in children missing vaccinations; these children, as well as those missed even before the pandemic, will be caught up primarily through routine immunization (e.g., catch up in RI, intensified RI, additional PIRIs, etc.) and integration with upcoming planned immunization activities, preventive campaigns.

Section five concludes that all interventions should be designed to contribute to the equity, quality, efficiency, and sustainability of immunization programs.
