Global health expenditure for 2018, together with this year’s Global Health Expenditure Report, is releasing tomorrow Wednesday 9th December 2020. The live event can be viewed VIA Zoom from 15:00-16:15 pm (Geneva time). This is the 4th in a series of annual reports on global health spending, produced since 2017.
The 2020 Report entitled, “Global Spending on Health: Weathering the Storm” analyzes global health spending for 190 countries from 2000 to 2018 and provides insights on health spending trajectories prior to the crisis of 2020. The report shows that global spending on health rose continually between 2000 and 2018, reaching US$ 8.3 trillion or 10% of global GDP.
The data also show that out-of-pocket spending has remained high in low and lower-middle-income countries, representing greater than 40% of total health spending in 2018. The data on PHC expenditures, as well as by disease and intervention, including for immunization, looking at all sources (government, private, and donors) has also been summarized.
The report also analyzes available data on budget allocations in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
