Home > Flu vaccine linked with lower antibiotic use

A study on the impact of influenza vaccination on antibiotic use in the US suggests an association between increased influenza vaccination uptake at the population level and reductions in antibiotic use at the state level. The recently published research used fixed effects regression analysis to analyze the relationship between influenza vaccine coverage rates and the number of antibiotic prescriptions per 1,000 residents from January to March of each year from 2010 to 2017. The retrospective analysis — conducted across US states — contributes to closing an existing gap in data on the topic.
