The Immunization Agenda (IA 2030) prioritizes and focuses on reaching the most marginalized and vulnerable populations. Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has made ‘leaving no one behind with immunization’ the central vision of the Gavi 2021-25 (Gavi 5.0) strategy. To help countries accelerate efforts to reach zero-dose children and missed communities, in December 2020, the Gavi Board approved the Equity Accelerator Funding (EAF) of US$500 million for the 2021-2025 strategic period. This funding will be available to countries that identify and develop tailored strategies to reach additional zero-dose children and missed communities they could not reach using other available resources.
Country applications will need to demonstrate a robust zero-dose identification process to access the EAF. The process will involve establishing a baseline on how many, who, and where zero-dose children and missed communities are, as well as the barriers to reaching them. Countries planning to request EAF are encouraged to reach out to their Senior Country Manager to discuss the pre-requirements and obtain tailored application materials.
