The upcoming African Health Economics Association (AfHEA) conference will be held virtually from March 7-11, 2022 with six parallel sessions per day. The theme of the event is “Towards Resilient Health Systems in Africa: The Role of Health Economics and Policy Research.” Subthemes of the event include:

  • Decolonizing health economics and policy research

  • How can health financing systems in Africa be more resilient to pandemics

  • Cost-effectiveness of underlying social determinants of health in Africa

  • Building back better health systems

  • UHC, policy, politics and reforms during COVID-19

  • The role and use of data for evidence for policy decisions in a pandemic

  • Vaccine economics: equity, distribution, financing, trade and lessons learned from COVID-19

  • Looking to the future: mitigating the effects of COVID-19 pandemic

A pre-conference workshop will also take place on Friday 4th March from 12:00 to 1:30 pm GMT with the African Health Observatory Platform and the Conversation Africa on “Effectively using science communication tools and methods in promoting research”.
