A new article calls for innovative and tailor-made solutions to be incorporated into healthcare systems to bridge the gap between healthcare access and logistical challenges. Healthcare workers serving the hard-to-reach areas in Kenya face major logistical and financial challenges in their efforts to reach the population during vaccination outreach, with the efficacy of vaccines often being compromised by the inefficient traditional ice boxes often used in remote areas. This financial strain further widens the gap in vaccine accessibility, putting already vulnerable populations at even greater risk of suffering from and eventually succumbing to preventable diseases.
Emvolio, a cutting-edge vaccine cold-chain technology developed by Blackfrog Technologies, is described in the piece and is being piloted in remote villages in Samburu and Isiolo counties. A successful pilot in these two regions will set the stage for scaling up this innovation, fortifying Kenya’s vaccination infrastructure, and, most importantly, saving countless lives across the country.
