A new study in Vaccine examines childhood vaccination coverage trends, disparities, and key determinants in Tanzania between 2010 and 2022, using data from three Demographic and Health Surveys.
The authors found that between 2010 and 2015, full vaccination coverage held steady at around 75.6%. However, by 2022, this figure had decreased to 70.5%. Factors such as maternal illiteracy, poverty, and restricted mass media access contributed to these disparities. Given the persisting significant socioeconomic disparities, the authors call for urgent action to ensure equitable access to vaccination for all children in Tanzania.
