Value and effectiveness of National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) in low- and middle-income countries

Home > Value and effectiveness of National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) in low- and middle-income countries

The article discusses the importance and effectiveness of National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The study carried out interviews and a literature review from 38 countries and found that NITAGs are valuable for promoting evidence-based vaccination decisions and strengthening national immunization programs.

However, the study identified several challenges hindering NITAG effectiveness, such as inconsistent funding, a lack of specialized expertise among members, inadequate management of conflicts of interest, and limited integration with national decision-making processes.

The article concludes that while NITAGs have evolved considerably, many in LMICs need more support to improve their quality, effectiveness, impartiality, and integration into national decision-making. Sustainable global support is essential for their continued development.
