Landscape analysis on cervical cancer elimination in Kenya

Home > Landscape analysis on cervical cancer elimination in Kenya

Kenya faces significant challenges in eliminating cervical cancer, with suboptimal implementation of HPV vaccination, screening, and treatment hindering progress. This new report, developed by ThinkWell in collaboration with Kenya’s Ministry of Health, offers a comprehensive landscape analysis to inform the development of the National Cervical Cancer Elimination Action Plan. It pinpoints 36 priority gaps spanning across the three cervical cancer elimination pillars, categorized under six key themes: leadership and policy; service delivery; health informatics, technologies, and supply chain; health workforce; education, information, and awareness; and financing. Notably, critical gaps include the delayed transition to a single-dose HPV vaccine schedule, a possible move to a single-age vaccination cohort, an overreliance on donor funding amidst declining support for health programs. The authors conclude by identifying specific evidence-generation needs necessary and advocacy strategies to fill key gaps.
